TODDLER MUSIC AND MOVEMENT (WITH AN ACCOMPANYING ADULT)Do you have a little one who loves to dance and sing and just can’t get enough music in his/her life?  This class will engage your child through singing, dancing, and playing instruments.  This class is a time to promote bonding between parent and child, a time to socialize with other children, and a time to stimulate the senses through music and movement.

GROUP VOCAL (AGES 4-5 “PETITE PICCOLOS”) (AGES 6-7 “SWEET STACCATOS”) (AGES 8-9 “DEEP TREBLE”) (AGES 10-12 “GRACE NOTES”)This is one of our most popular programs at the studio. Children love to sing, and we can’t stop them from singing if they want to.  What we focus on in the group vocal classes at PHCA is preventing the bad habits from starting in the first place.  There are many skills in singing that can be learned while a child is growing up and his/her voice is maturing. Our class is broken up into three sections. The first few minutes are spent warming the voice up and on preventing bad habits such as practicing light technical exercises in which the students practice correct breathing and vowel placement. Then each week, a student or two sings and shares with us a solo song they’ve been working on and then we end class working on a group song that we will later perform at an area festival or recital.  This is a great class to learn how to sing correctly and gain performance skills and confidence while making great friends.

SOLO VOCAL CLASSESSolo classes in voice are offered for ages 13 and up.  In the beginning of class, we warm the voice up and practice a few technique exercises to help learn concepts like proper vowel placement and usage of breath support.  Then we move on to working on songs in the style the student chooses to sing.  Some of our students are also singers/songwriters, and these are great classes for them to help develop their songwriting skills, as well as establishing their own unique sounds and style.  Classes are offered for 30 minute time slots, the same day and time each week.

SOLO PIANO CLASSESSolo classes in piano are offered for ages 6 and up.  Each student is taught on an individual basis, as each student matures at a different rate.  In this class, you will learn and apply music theory, play in the style of music YOU like, develop your performing skills and artistry, and perform in professional showcases, as well as build self-esteem and self-discipline. You need to have the daily usage of a piano or keyboard to participate in piano classes. Classes are offered for 30 minute time slots, the same day and time each week.

SOLO GUITAR CLASSESSolo classes in guitar are offered for ages 7 and up.  Guitar classes are held for 30 minutes and students will be expected to first begin learning the parts and strings on the guitar.  Then they will progress into chords, strumming patterns, and switching chords. After the student has learned and memorized at least three chords, they can move on to playing a song.  Finger-picking will be taught once chords are perfected.

SOLO DRUM CLASSESSolo classes in drums are offered for ages 7 and up.  Each lesson will include various exercises geared toward building the student’s technique and creative independence. Playing the drum set is very physically demanding as it requires the use of all four limbs.  Both instruction and practice will focus on repetition as a means of building muscle memory.  A helpful way to think about this method is, “You have to first learn how to crawl, then learn how to walk, and then you can run.”  Students will also be encouraged to explore the vast array of sounds and textures contained in the drum set by taking a portion of time to play on their own to inspire their sense of creativity.  The goal of this method is to gradually combine the muscle memory through repetition, with the ability to develop creative ideas on their own. Classes are offered for 30 minute time slots, the same day and time each week.

SOLO FLUTE CLASSESA flute lesson is always interesting and enjoyable. We begin with simple exercises – position of the mouthpiece is most important!  Simple songs are learned along with continued exercises and scales. If a student does not know notes, then Notespellers are introduced also. Eventually, with maturity, simple FLUTE duets are practiced and learned and really fun to play. We would proceed into recitals with solos, duets, and even trios, which are very exciting and beautiful to play and hear. Lessons are always fun and maturity with this instrument is not difficult.  Miss Brenda looks forward to sharing her teaching ability from many, many years of accomplished playing. Classes are offered for 30 minute time slots, the same day and time each week.

ADULT DUO/TRIO GUITAR CLASSESDo you have a guitar that just sits in the corner of a room collecting dust?  You want to play, but you never make the time to sit down and commit to it, or maybe you were never given the chance to learn as a child, but have always wanted to learn.  Now is the time!  Here is your chance!  Sign up for this laid back fun class, and you’ll be playing a song after your first lesson.

SUZUKI METHOD VIOLIN AND VIOLA CLASSESThe Suzuki method is an internationally known music curriculum & teaching philosophy dating from the mid-20th century, created by Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki. This method aims to create an environment for learning music which parallels the linguistic environment of acquiring a native language. Suzuki believed that this environment would also help to foster good moral character. Classes are offered for 30 minute time slots, the same day and time each week.
